Our pick for Cool Actor of the Week this time around is the living embodiment of the term “working actor.” Since Scott Paulin‘s first credited role in the TV movie Vampire in 1979, he’s never slowed down.

Born in Steubenville, Ohio in 1950, Paulin is one of those remarkable actors who can bounce from low-budget films to big-budget blockbusters without anyone batting an eye. For instance, he went from the 1982 remake of Cat People to Roger Corman’s Forbidden World (also 1982 – he’s prominently featured in the opening of the slightly NSFW German trailer below) to playing astronaut Deke Slayton in Philip Kaufman’s The Right Stuff (1983).

Paulin also jumps from TV to feature films on a regular basis. In 1985 he appeared on an episode of The Twilight Zone in a terrific segment called Nightcrawlers, based on the Robert R. McCammon story and directed by William Friedkin. If you’ve never seen it, it’s worth checking out and I’m including the segment here.

Paulin lists an astonishing 105 acting credits, including TV shows like Amazing Stories, Beverly Hills 90210, and The X-Files, all the way up to recent stuff like Lost, House, and Castle. His film roles include Teen Wolf, Pump Up the Volume, and Albert Pyun’s not-so-good 1990 version of Captain America, where Paulin played The Red Skull, Cap’s arch-nemesis.

Paulin’s 61st birthday is only days away as I write this, and the man is still going strong.
